If local government is so important, why is it so difficult to get people as involved as they need to be?

Are local issues easier or harder than national issues to understand? What can be done to increase local awareness?

1. Unfortunately most people are ignorant of the role that politics plays in their lives and would rather watch American Idol than talk to their city council member.
2. Eradicate internet blogging. If people couldn't sit on their butts and complain then quickly turn off their computers so they didn't have to actually DO anything, wed be in better shape. We are too scared to risk our comfy life to protest. But here's the kicker! It's a false sense of security anyway.
3. That's a really good question.When we were trying to get a vote done here in our town we could not get enough people to show up.The high school teachers talked to the kids about how important it is to get involved in local causes.They talk to their friends and parents and the word spreads.We got our vote and our new school.
